Easter Tidings

I've always loved the Easter long weekend! It just seems to me that spring always rolls into town for Easter. The sun shines and the grass gets a bit greener. Like January and September, it's a starting line. A time to breathe in the fresh warm air and revel in that exciting sense of renewal that only a touch of spring fever can bring.

Yesterday, I mentioned some of the projects that I'll be working on this weekend. I'm really looking forward to finishing up a few things that are going to help our kitchen become a bit more practical (come back to the 11th next week for my post on simple shelving). But I'm also spending a good part of this long weekend relaxing! I'm writing this in my pajamas, and I don't have any plans to get dressed! (Don't you love days like this?)

If you know me, you know how much I enjoy the trappings of each and every season and holiday. I find that involving myself in these time honoured traditions (ie. Christmas trees, pumpkin carving etc) brings me a childlike joy that is sometimes hard to come by in adult life. And at Easter, I fill the house with lilies and I always buy myself a batch of hot cross buns! I grew up eating hot-cross buns in the spring, and they're just wonderful. Don't let the dried fruit scare you off; toasted and served with lots of butter, the buns are breakfast heaven!

(Look for them at bakeries during the month of April. If you're in Toronto, stop by the Oliver and Bonacini bakery at Queen and Yonge, lower level. That's where I purchased mine and they are very very good. I'll likely buy another batch and freeze them for tea time treats!).

Hope you'll stop by the 11th apartment next week! Until then, have a lovely long weekend.

Happy Easter!
