Shop Small! The 2014 Etsy Gift Guide

My holiday gift guide is finally all done! This year I decided to focus on the Etsy marketplace. By shopping Etsy, you'll find incredibly unique and thoughtful gifts while supporting makers and craftspeople from all over the world. This Christmas there's no reason not to shop small! I've put some of the best Etsy finds all in one blog post. I hope you enjoy!

Some super special gifts for mom: these soft leather Moroccan poofs are a lovely addition to any room. It's impossible not to find a spot for them! Morocco Sell ($100). I've also included a handmade ceramic salad bowl made by an artisan in Isreal; Free Folding ($65). And finally, check out this scrumptious leather tote bag. I LOVE this bag. I could eat it, that's how delightful the leather looks; Pansy Bag ($165).

For the brother on your list, I really like this waxed canvas backpack from Natural Heritage ($87). Backpacks are not only trendy right now, they're super functional, and I'm sure that this sexy beast of a pack would make anyone's day.

I always like to get my sister something special and girly, so I've picked out a vegan leather envelope shoulder bag that converts to a clutch. The Urban Bag Shop ($25). And I've also included thes cute dipped rose gold coloured studs. Cutie Cottage ($12).

Help your urban man to connect with his pioneer/ hipster/ lumberjack "roots", with these grooming products from Smith & Cox co. Badger hair shaving brush ($65), Beard balm ($16).

I've recommended this jewelry maker before and I'll recommend her again! SDMarie Jewelry designs and produces edgy/ pretty rings, bangles and earrings that I dare you not to love. What girl would want a little blue box when she could have that AMAZING bar ring! (Shop prices range from $50 - $200).

Your best friend deserves something that's as cool as she is. I suggest this Japanese textile- is it a scarf or a wall hanging? Answer: it's gorgeous enough to be both! The Link Collective ($56).

For the party hostess, why not bring something that will help them to prepare for parties to come? I like the idea of gifting something that they will use to decorate year after year. This gold star garland from Mailbox Happiness ($15) is just that!

If for some reason your gift list includes people that you don't really know super duper well, a coworker, your boss, your bank teller... then you're probably on the lookout for interesting well designed items that aren't too personal. Enter this linen pencil case by Jane Hayden Designs ($15), and blue suede notebook from Alternative Journals ($28).

When I have kids, I plan to torture them with toys made of natural materials like wood and wool. Christmas will be medieval styles at our house! Not a battery or flashing light to be found! So that's why I love this natural wooden bowling toy set from Apple 'n Amos ($30).
I was also drawn to these dinosaur shaped crayons from Earth Grown Crayons ($12), they are a smart design item that will inspire creativity.
And for the slightly older child, why not start a new Christmas tradition? This needle felted hare by Madame Craig ($75) is one of many forest creatures that I think would make up an adorable holiday collection. Actually, just look up 'needle felted animal' on Etsy and get ready for extreme cuteness.

Speaking of great design items, let me introduce you to this simple paper toy bag by Tell Kiddo ($25). I love it because it's a chic design object with tons of Scandinavian cool, but beyond that, it's actually a storage item, and what mom won't need somewhere to store all the new holiday toys?
Impress the tiny chubby people on your list with these gold moccasins from Iris Lane Moccasins ($26).

I'll end my list with some stocking stuffers or small gifts. First, you must go over to Etsy and visit InkKit! It's my new favourite shop! They sell everything from washi tape, to black dolies, to mini dip painted clothes pins; everything you need to start the most coolest hippest inspiration board or other DIY project. (Dolies, $5).
Who wouldn't find a way to use these fun temporary tattoos? Ink n Art has all kinds of fun little tattoo designs that don't require a commitment. Arrow tats, ($5).
Make someone's day by gifting this nautical stationary set by Papillon Kate ($7).

You may have noticed that I missed one person on this list: your Dad. And that is because no one knows what to get dads for Christmas. Not even me. If you absolutely must get your father something beyond the standard bottle of whiskey and solid handshake, then let me suggest entering a store, closing your eyes, sticking out your arm pointer finger forward, and walking around divining style until something 'feels right'. At that point, open your eyes, see what is in front of you and purcahse it. Final step: wrap the gift and cross your dad off your list.
You're welcome.

Happy Shopping!
